Digital photo management program designed to import, organize, enhance, search and export your digital images to and from your computer. It provides a simple interface which makes importing and organizing digital photographs a 'snap'. DigiKam enables you to manage large numbers of digital photographs in albums and to organize these photographs for easy retrieval using tags (keywords), captions, collections, dates, geolocation and searches.
It has many features for viewing, organizing, processing and sharing your images. Thus, digiKam is a formidable digital asset management (DAM) software including powerful image editing functions. An easy-to-use camera interface is provided, that will connect to your digital camera and download photographs directly into digiKam albums.
More than 1000 digital cameras are supported by the gphoto2 library. Of course, any media or card reader supported by your operating system will interface with digiKam. DigiKam incorporates a fast Image Editor with many image editing tools. You can use the Image Editor to view your photographs, comment and rate them, correct, enhance and alter them. The editing power can be easily extended by a set of plugins, the KDE Image Plugins Interface (manual) While digiKam remains easy to use, it provides professional level features by the dozens. It is fully 16 bit enabled including all available plugins, supports RAW format conversion through libraw, DNG export and ICC color management work flow. DigiKam can also make use of the KIPI image handling plugins to extend its capabilities even further for photo manipulations, import and export, etc.
The kipi-plugins package contains many very useful extensions. Facedetect is a simple face detector for batch processing. It answers the basic question: 'Is there a face in this image?' And gives back either an exit code or the coordinates of each detected face in the standard output. The aim is to provide a basic command-line interface that's consistent and easy to use with software such as ImageMagick, while progressively improving the detection algorithm over time. Facedetect is used in software such as fgallery to improve the thumbnail cutting region, so that faces are always centered.

OpenColorIO is free and is one of several open source projects actively sponsored by Sony Imageworks. This package provides some utilities. OpenImageIO is a library for reading and writing images, and a bunch of related classes, utilities, and applications.
Main features include:. Extremely simple but powerful ImageInput and ImageOutput APIs for reading and writing 2D images that is format agnostic - that is, a 'client app' doesn't need to know the details about any particular image file formats. Specific formats are implemented by DLL/DSO plugins. Format plugins for TIFF, JPEG/JFIF, OpenEXR, PNG, HDR/RGBE, Targa, JPEG-2000, DPX, Cineon, FITS, BMP, ICO, RMan Zfile, Softimage PIC, DDS, SGI, PNM/PPM/PGM/PBM, Field3d, WebP. The plugins are really good at understanding all the strange corners of the image formats, and are very careful about preserving image metadata (including Exif, GPS, and IPTC data). An ImageCache class that transparently manages a cache so that it can access truly vast amounts of image data (thousands of image files totaling hundreds of GB) very efficiently using only a tiny amount (tens of megabytes at most) of runtime memory. Additionally, a TextureSystem class provides filtered MIP-map texture lookups, atop the nice caching behavior of ImageCache.
Several image tools based on these classes, including iinfo (print detailed info about images), iconvert (convert among formats, data types, or modify metadata), idiff (compare images),igrep (search images for matching metadata). Because these tools are based on ImageInput/ImageOutput, they work with any image formats for which ImageIO plugins are available. A really nice image viewer, iv, also based on OpenImageIO classes (and so will work with any formats for which plugins are available). Supported on Linux, OS X, and Windows. All available under the BSD license, so you may modify it and use it in both open source or proprietary apps. This package contains command line tools, including iv image viewer.

This package is the Wii Remote client package for Kodi. Debian package not available AnImaL is an imaging and computer vision library written in C. Differently from most other toolkits, it is intended to provide the maximum functionality by making strong usage of similar libraries.
It is intended to be a common API to the best free imaging and computer vision libraries already available, such as ImageMagick and Gandalf. By defining a common API and using external libraries, AnImaL selects the best implementation available in them to implement a particular algorithm. This way AnImaL unites the best from the other libraries it uses.
Debian package not available Cooka is a very simple image viewer written in C# and compiled with Mono framework. The application is really essential: it has a file system browser in order to select the folder containing images to display; a thumbs viewer useful to see a preview of the images within the selected folder and some information like image’s name, size and dimension; and finally a “view” area used to display the selected image. In order to handle images and to enhance image viewing, Cooka provides a simple toolbar that allows users perform some basic operation such as rotate, zoom, set as background. Debian package not available FF Multi Converter is a simple graphical application which enables the user to convert audio, video, image and document files between all popular formats by using and combining other programs.
It uses avconv for audio/video files, unoconv for document files and ImageMagick for image file conversions. The goal of FF Multi Converter is to gather the most popular multimedia types in one application and provide conversion options for them easily through a user-friendly interface. Debian package not available Photoflow provides a complete layer-based workflow including RAW image development. The aim of the project is to provide a fully non-destructive photo retouching program that includes a complete workflow from RAW image development to high-quality printing. Debian package not available PhotoQt is a simple, yet powerful and good looking image viewer, written in Qt, published as open-source, and completely free. The list below is meant to give you a rough idea of PhotoQt's abilities and is by far not an exhaustive list: Support of many image formats (use of GraphicsMagick) Basic image manipulations (Rotating, Flipping, Zooming) Basic File Management (Renaming, Deleting, Moving, Copying) Keyboard and Mouse Shortcuts Set-as-Wallpaper function Slideshow feature Exif information Highly Adjustable to your custom preference Interface that doesn't get into your way Very fast and flexible Thumbnail Cache System Tray Usage Command Line Options Several translations available (not all complete (yet). Wanna help?) and much more.
Debian package not available PhotoShow is a free, open-source, and very easy to use web gallery installable on any web server. Only two lines of configuration, and you're good to go!
Adding and sorting photos, albums, users, and groups have never been easier. Simply drag and drop them wherever you want. To delete a photo or an album, just drag and drop it on the bin. PhotoShow automatically generates the whole website, including the thumbnails. Also, if your photos are bigger than 800x600px, it generates a smaller version for displaying (the big version is still available for your viewers to download, of course). The architecture of PhotoShow's albums is created using the File System directly: no database is required to use PhotoShow.
You can use your File System directly to add, move, or delete albums and pictures. PhotoShow is compatible with DropBox, along with all of your Unix tools, because it is based on the File System. Use rsync, scp, or anything you prefer to interact with your photos. Each of your files and folders has its owns permissions, configurable in PhotoShow by the Admin (you). On the go, select which group/user can access an item. PhotoShow provides a proxy for accessing the images, checking if the user is allowed to view an image or not.
It is advised to place the directory for your photos in a folder not accessible by the web. Then, passing through PhotoShow's proxy will be necessary to access the images, ensurring you that only allowed users can view them. Debian package not available This tool is able to embed JPEG or JPEG2000 files into a PDF container without re-encoding them.
Files of other formats will be stored using the lossless Flate/zlib encoding. In addition to JPEG and JPEG 2000, all formats supported by the Python Imaging Library are supported as input. There seems to be no tool (correct me if I'm wrong) which can embed an image into a pdf without either loosing information due to JPEG re-encoding or blowing up the filesize through Flate/zlib encoding. It would thus be a useful tool to have in Debian.
